CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Clarendon Hills has received proposals from those interested in buying the fire station property and developing it. "We are in negotiations, and we need to prioritize getting the best deal for the Village," Village Manager Zach Creer said in an emailed response to a Patch inquiry this week. Asked what he could share about the proposals, Creer said he would have to check with the village's lawyer to see what could be disclosed. Last year, Clarendon Hills revealed it was looking into the possibility of selling the downtown fire station at 316 Park Ave. The village would then move the fire department to the site of the police station and public works department in the 400 block of Park Avenue. The site's impound lot could be used for the new fire station because a third party now handles impounded cars, according to the village. In a memo last year, Creer said moving the fire department could spur downtown development. To make the project a reality, Creer said the sale of the current fire station's land alone may be enough to offset the cost of the new building. The village also could use money from the downtown tax district to pay for moving costs, he said.
